We are building towards the end of term with plenty of activities in front of us:

* Term 2 Mihi Whakatau this Friday 9.15am

* Parent Interviews with Mid-year summary reports discussed

* Matariki evening

* Photo fundraiser

* Year 4 to 6 swimming sports on 1 July

Wow!!! An energetic next few weeks!

There have been three new enrolments over the past fortnight.

Aryan Ghodke, Carter Dol and Carleigh Jordon are all part of Room 6 and enjoying their first weeks at our school. Great to have you here!

We currently have 473 children enrolled.

In just over two and a half weeks the whole school will be holding parent-teacher interviews. We urge all families to participate in these interviews and have set aside two afternoons and evenings for these to occur:

Monday 5 July 2.15 pm – 7.00 pm Tuesday 6 July 2.15 pm – 6.45 pm

You can request an interview by using our online booking program:

• Go to our school website www.gms.school.nz and click on the ‘Parent – Teacher Interviews 2021’ tab.

• There you will see instructions to take you to the interview booking website, along with the necessary code for booking dates and times at our school (remember to use the school code which is (N9bnq)

• Once your booking is completed you will receive an email confirming your interview. These details can be rescheduled if your availability changes.

If you are unable to access the school’s website, then you can ring, or visit, the school office and Carolyn or Sara will book a time for you.

We expect a 100% attendance of families at these interviews, so please let us know of any difficulties you may be having booking a time.

Each child will have a summary sheet of their achievements and progress so far this year prepared for them available at the interview.

Because of the interviews school will close early at 2.00pm on the afternoons of Monday 5th July and Tuesday 6th July.

Our school will celebrate Matariki with a function at school that all are invited to.

There will be food and drink on sale.

Things on sale include sausages and vegetable soup, as well as marshmallows for toasting!

So plan to wrap up warmly, bring a torch along and come to be part of this activity.

The PTA are looking for helpers to cook the food and run the stalls - can you help? Please let the office know if you can spare half an hour in any of these time slots 5-5.30, 5.30-6, 6-6.30, 630-7pm.

For the evening we will be selling the GMS Cash Card like we have for the recent Discos. These will be $5 & $10 Cards only - they will be on sale 23rd and 24th June in the school office.

You will aslo be able to purchase the cash cards on the night.

Families can arrive for food from 5.00pm before we start proceedings at 5.30pm in He Kapua. Our Ukettes, kapa haka and Pasifika groups will perform to during the night.

Do you know that 'Champions' runs for years 3 to 6 students on Fridays at lunch times?

Champions is a Christian values-based programme that reinforces our school values and uses the bible for lessons.

If you would like your child to be involved, collect a consent form from the school office.

Over the weekend of 3rd and 4th July we will have a photographer on site taking family portraits. For just $10, families can book a sitting and receive a free print.

From the 21st June please bring $10 in to the office to book your time. No Eftpos available, cash ONLY.

A reminder that registrations for Term 3 sports are closing on the 22nd June – visit the GMS website www.gms.school.nz and follow the links under the sports tab for full information and the link to register via Kindo. Notices can also be picked up from the school office. The following options are available for each year group:

YEAR 0-2:

Basketball, played on Thursdays after school at the PGA

YEAR 3-4:

Basketball, played on Thursdays after school at the PGA

Soccer, played on Wednesdays after school at Richmond School

Barefoot 10’s Rugby – if we have enough keen players we will form a team to play either lunchtime or after school games (Wednesdays), at this stage we are asking

for expressions of interest to become a part of this.

YEAR 5-6:

Soccer, played on Thursdays after school at Richmond School

Barefoot 10’s Rugby, played on Wednesdays after school at local school venues.

We are now at the stage of planning for the 2022 year. It is really important that we have as clear an indication of new enrolment numbers as possible.

If you have a child who is going to turn five at any stage in 2022 and they are going to attend GMS, please let us know as soon as possible.

This also applies to any relatives, neighbours or friends you may have who are in our zone and wish for their children to come to our wonderful school. Even if you think we may already know, there is no harm in telling us (again).

Parking around our school, particularly at the end of the day is very limited, due to the size of our school roll. We have been contacted by one of our neighbours on Gloucester Street about the parking outside their property. Parents/caregivers are parking on the marked yellow lines and over neighbouring properties driveways. Please respect the road markings and ensure you're parked legally around the school when picking up and dropping off your children.

Congratulations to Year 6 GMS student Max Weeks who has won a national poetry writing competition in the primary school section. His poem 'Matariki' will be published in Issue 56 of 'Write On' magazine which is due out in early July. Tino pai Max!
